A fun, winsome, happy vase hand painted and decorated in the incredible Satsuma style. I love the intricacy and delicate painting. The heavily-potted ceramic vase has a fine base crackle glaze with detailed designs using over glaze enamels and gilding. The two main panels portray children in garden settings. The panels are framed with brocade-like designs. The painting has a raised moriage style. It is incredibly minute and must have been painted with a single hairbrush. The unglazed foot is slightly raised and the base is glazed. There are no marks or labels. MEASUREMENTS 3 5/8” (9.2 cm) tall x 1 7/8” (4.8 cm) diameter. Weighs 5.2 oz (125 g) CONDITION There are no chips, cracks, or breaks. There is wear to the gilding at the mouth and a light wear to the gilding on the body. There is one stray spot of white enamel towards the bottom on one of the gilded frames to a panel. Otherwise, the painting is fresh, bright and shiny. A tour de force of the Japanese ceramic painter. It’s a small work of art.
